Meet the police constable who keeps school children safe

A young police constable is becoming increasingly popular in the West Coast Region for helping hundreds of school children in Yundum cross the Brikama Highway safely on their way to and from school.

Every morning on school days, 1st Class Constable Malang Camara heads out and helps the children, frequently stopping cars to allow the youngsters to cross safely.

Brikama-based youth activist, Modou Lamin Kambi said the young constable is like a breath of fresh air.

“His level of professionalism is unmatched. Camara’s passion for the job is evident and it’s easy to notice that he takes the safety of the children very seriously.”

According to Modou Lamin, many are grateful for Camara’s efforts, because children often do not know how to judge the speed and distance of cars.

Police PRO, Superintendent David Kujabi told What’s On-Gambia: “Police officers are trained to help pedestrians cross roads with a special emphasis on school children and handicaps. However, Camara goes the extra mile in doing it in a friendly manner which endears him to the school children.”

1st Class Constable Malang Camara joined the Gambia Police Force in September 2012.
