The deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Melville Roberts, who is currently facing allegations of sexual misconduct, has recently married a 23-year-old Latri Kunda girl.
Reports reaching What's On-Gambia revealed that Melville met Fatou Faye earlier this year before the allegations against him emerged on social media.
Their marriage was tied at a local mosque in Latri Kunda Sabiji.
According to our source, who claimed to be close to the couple, Fatou’s mother and sisters did not approve of Melville and this caused a strain in her relationship with them.
"She disregarded her mother's disapproval and went ahead with the marriage. Her sisters were not also supportive because of the sexual misconduct allegations against him," said our source.
Melville is facing allegations of sexual misconduct raised by multiple women including the wife of former interior minister, Mai Ahamad Fatty.
Shortly after the women came forward, the attorney general and minister of justice, Baa Tambadou assured them that the allegations against the deputy permanent secretary will be treated with the seriousness they deserve.
Melville is yet to return home from the United Kingdom, where he recently completed his Master's Degree at the Oxford University.
