Famous entrepreneur and social media personality Meta Mbye has funded her mother’s Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, spending more than D0.5 million to make the journey possible.
Mbye shared the news in a video posted on her Instagram page, showing her at Banjul International Airport as she bid farewell to her mother. In the caption, she expressed gratitude and pride in fulfilling a long-time goal.
“Alhamdulilah three times. Super proud of myself. This has always been on my wish list, and I never thought I’d be able to take my mum to Mecca at the age of 24, all by myself,” she wrote.
The video quickly gained traction, garnering over 2,500 likes and numerous supportive comments. Many followers praised her for enabling her mother to fulfill one of the five pillars of Islam.
One comment in Wolof read: “Mashallah, Yallah nga tog beh sah dom teral la. Mbye Mbasu, yow barkeh rek ngai am,” — a prayer wishing her continued blessings. Another follower added, “Mashallah!! There’s nothing more beautiful than this.”
Mbye’s mother is among the thousands of Gambians currently in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj. Pilgrims are expected to return once all the rites are completed.
