Miss Gambia-USA gives President Jammeh thumbs up

President Jammeh has recently shown the type of leadership many Gambians expect of their president. He pardoned more than 200 prisoners, including treason convicts, to mark the 21st anniversary of the July 22 revolution.

One of Jammeh’s newest fans is Miss Gambia-USA, Omie Garba. She is hoping to meet the Gambian leader when she visits the country soon.

“I think sometimes in the Diaspora we follow other people’s opinions rather than finding out for ourselves what the truth is. I took some time to research about Jammeh and I came to find out that this man wants the best for the country,” said Omie.

Omie, a nursing student, is representing The Gambia at this year’s Miss Africa-USA Beauty Pageant. Her platform is to promote education among young Gambians.

She told What’s On-Gambia: “I want to meet President Jammeh and the First Lady to discuss my plans in supporting the educational sector.

“Both the president and his wife are active in the advancement of education and the well-being of young Gambians.”

Commenting on the recent presidential pardon, Omie said: “It was a very kind gesture that needs a history book of its own, because it is an unforgettable event that has changed the lives of many Gambian families.”

On the 29th August, Omie will be in Baltimore to battle it out for the prestigious Miss Africa- USA crown. She is expecting Gambians in the USA to come out in droves to support her.

“Miss Africa USA is a scholarship pageant with a humanitarian platform that allows young Africans to let their voices be heard,” she said.

What’s On-Gambiais wishing Omie the best of luck!
