Mufti Ismail Menk’s highly anticipated first trip to The Gambia still remains unconfirmed, but the organisers are confident that he will be in the country before the end of the year.
One of them told What’s On-Gambia: “The slated date was May 12 (last weekend before Ramadan ) but it coincided with the Mayoral election and they don't go to places that have are having political issues.”
However, he added: “But we lobbying for after Ramadan, unfortunately for us, we're yet to have a suitable date from him.”
The erudite and internationally respected scholar is expected to deliver public lectures and sermons at different venues within the Greater Banjul Area, including the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Mufti Menk, who was once named among the top 500 most influential Muslims in the world, might also meet President Adama Barrow and some of his ministers.
