Some of her friends include anti-FGM campaigner, Jaha Dukureh and former Speaker of the National Assembly, Fatoumatta Jahumpa Ceesay.
Nafi Tambajang is simply the most influential and powerful “State House Daughter” in the political history of The Gambia. Since her mother was sworn-in as the country’s vice president, she has participated in so many high profile meetings.
Earlier this year, Nafi travelled to the sixty-second session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York with her mother and other senior members of the Barrow administration. There, she met prominent world leaders such as the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and former Minister of Environment of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Amina J Mohammed.
The State House Daughter wrote on Facebook: “I am so honoured and humbled by Amina’s humility and grace. The advice she gave me I’ll keep with me for a lifetime. Amina also has a very sharp and sound mind when it comes to youths! Her thoughts on the empowerment of youths has shaken me up today. It has given me life and drive to contribute more to the African agenda for youth.”
A source disclosed to What’s On-Gambia that Nafi is one of the few people in the country who received security clearance to enter State House at any time of the day.
She is -unofficially- a special assistant to her mum and she helped influence some of her decisions. Some have suggested that the vice president’s decision to support Jaha Dukureh’s controversial campaign to end FGM in The Gambia was her idea.
What increases Nafi’s influence even more is the fact that her mother is one of the closest to President Adama Barrow.
In a recent Facebook video, the outspoken State House Daughter revealed she wants The Gambia to support Paul Kagame’s push for the advancement of an African single digital market.
“I want The Gambia to be part of this,” she said.
