Former vice president and leader of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), ANM Ousainou Darboe has disclosed that Tourism Minister Hamat Bah once traveled all the way to Europe just to hand over a letter to FTI Group in Germany.
According to him, the letter was to inform the tour operator that the Gambia Government has allocated a piece of land for them in the Tourism Development Area.
Speaking to his supporters in Kuloro, Darboe argued that the tourism minister, who is widely believed to be among the most corrupt ministers in Gambian history, could have sent the letter via e-mail and saved taxpayers' money.
FTI Group is one of the biggest tour operators in the world. They resumed operations in The Gambia shortly after President Barrow came to power.
Headquartered in Munich, Germany, they want to help the Ministry of Tourism to transform destionation Gambia into an all-year-round destination for sustainable tourism development.
FTI Group's maiden flight after resuming operations landed at the Banjul International Airport in April 2019 with 348 tourists from Germany and Slovakia.
