President Barrow causes concern with weight gain

Gambians on social media have expressed their concern over President Adama Barrow’s weight gain.

The Gambian leader has been piling on the kilos since he took office in January 2017 after defeating former President Jammeh in a hard-fought presidential election.

Freelance journalist and political activist, Lamin Sanyang wrote on Facebook: “I'm concern about the diet and physical bearing of President Barrow. He is putting up more and more weight by the day. I don't know whether he has a chef? If he does, then he needs to work on his diet. He also needs a good physician to maintain his physical health.”

Reacting to Sanyang’s post, Facebook user Fangbondi Jatawuleng wrote: “Good advice. He might need a gym in the state house.”

One Abdoulie Sarr also said the president needs to lose weight because “a healthy mind can only function in a healthy body.”

In an interview with What’s On-Gambia, a US-based Gambian nurse revealed if the president continues piling on the kilos, he could increase his risk of cardiovascular disease such as hypertension.
