President Adama Barrow has renewed confidence in his two most competent reputation managers. He has reappointed Ebrima G. Sankareh as Spokesperson with the added responsibility of Presidential Adviser on Diaspora Affairs and elevated Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu to the position of Deputy Spokesperson of The Gambia Government.
Sankanu, a formidable Barrow loyalist and proven technocrat in the public information cadre, served as Principal Officer handling crises and risk communications for the state, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. He as well lectures at the University of The Gambia (UTG) School of Journalism and Digital Media (SJDM).
Directly answerable to the President of The Republic, Spokesperson Sankareh manages the political information of the President and centrally coordinates the strategic internal and external communications of the Government.
He speaks on behalf of the President, Cabinet ministers, and all other senior officials nationally and internationally. With expanded responsibilities, Ebrima G. Sankareh advises the President on best practices for harnessing the potential of the Diaspora and guiding statutory entities in charge of Diaspora Affairs.
Other responsibilities of the Spokesperson include final vetting or clearance for speeches, statements, press releases, digital media engagements, outreach, etc. to ensure coherence in government messaging; managing the brand/image of The Gambia Government and producing visibility merchandise for effective government-citizen communication; holding regular press briefings and chairing government press conferences; engaging other bilateral and multilateral Government or Inter-Government Spokespersons on knowledge-sharing and development cooperation that can be beneficial to The Gambia and, carrying out any other duty assigned by the President.
