Frequent and lengthy power outages will soon be a thing of the past, thanks to the government’s wise and courageous move to restore ties with China.
According to Chinese media reports, senior officials at the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy are currently negotiating with a state-owned Chinese company, Sinohydro on how to increase energy production in the country.
Last week, they had their first synergy meetings which lasted for three days. Sinohydro’s Africa vice president, Liu Xiaomin told journalist: "Our objective is squarely to meet the short and medium term power needs of Gambians.”
Liu and his team are returning to The Gambia next month for the final meeting. According to the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Momodou Njie, when fully finalized, the project will greatly enhance the country’s ability to produce electricity for Gambians.
