Senegal takes action against illegal butt enhancement capsules – Will Gambia follow?”

Senegalese authorities have shut down two cosmetics shops and raided several others in Dakar as part of a crackdown on the illegal sale of unregistered butt enhancement capsules.

The raid targeted businesses selling the capsules, locally known as “boulette,” which are popular among women seeking to enlarge their buttocks, hips, and thighs through what is believed to be an affordable method.

Among those arrested was popular TikToker Alimo Suppo after a tip-off from a group of pharmacists. Some of her alleged victims are expected to testify in court, detailing the severe health effects they suffered from using “boulette.”

In a TikTok video, Alimo claimed the capsules - also available in The Gambia - contain a blend of herbs, vitamins, and other compounds designed to promote fat growth or muscle development.

It remains unclear whether The Gambia’s Medicines Control Agency will follow Senegal’s lead in inspecting and regulating the importation of butt enhancement products, which are often sold on the black market.
