Singateh to perform free concert for Gambian refugees in Italy

Gambian international reggae and afro-manding star, Singateh is set to perform a free concert for Gambian refugees in Italy on October 10.

“It is an honour to entertain my brothers in Italy, who are going through difficult conditions. They are struggling because they want the best for their families back home,” Singateh told What’s On-Gambia.

Tens of thousands of young Gambians have forced their way via the Mediterranean seas into Italy, seeking a ‘better life’.

But as the ‘back-way’ phenomenon reaches unprecedented levels in recent years, the singer decided to put spotlight on the journey that claimed many young Gambian lives.

Singateh’s single, FaKebba is one of the most educative songs that address irregular migration.

If all goes as scheduled at Piacenza, the refugees will have a moment of relief amid a chance to sing and dance to live performances, which will feature a song that pays tribute to their plight.

The free concert is organised by Guilia Dappollonioa, an Italian lady married to a Gambian, Abdoulie Jammeh.

Singateh will be the first Gambian artists to perform a free concert for Gambian asylum seekers in Europe.
