A 19-year-old from Wellingara has vowed never to forgive his girlfriend’s father following a shocking cutlass attack that left him seriously injured and hospitalized.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 31, in Lamin Babylon, where the teenager went to visit his girlfriend. According to a source, the girl’s father, identified as Omar Gajigo, allegedly emerged from his compound with a cutlass and launched an unprovoked attack on the young man.

In an attempt to defend himself, the 19-year-old reportedly raised his hand to block the blow, suffering deep lacerations in the process. He was rushed to Ndemban Clinic, where he remains under medical care.

His sister explained: “He was at home when the girl called and invited him to Lamin Babylon. He went with a friend, who also has a girlfriend in the same area. As they were talking, her father walked into the compound, then came back out with a cutlass and attacked him.”

Gajigo, who is currently in police custody at Yundum Police Station in Banjulinding, allegedly told investigators he found the teen “on top of his daughter.” However, his daughter reportedly denied this claim during questioning.

The police are in the final stages of their investigation, and Gajigo is expected to be formally charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm. If convicted, he could face a substantial prison term.

The 19-year-old’s girlfriend has not yet visited him in the hospital since the attack.
