The Gambia’s only deaf football team badly let down by government

The Gambia’s only deaf football team is on the brink of disintegrated due to inadequate support from the government.

The team, which recently represented the country at the 7th edition of the West Africa Deaf Football Tournament in Mali, is allegedly neglected by the Ministry of Youth and Sports led by Hon. Henry Gomez.

Speaking to What’s On-Gambia, the president of The Gambia’s Deaf Sports Association (GDSA), Lamin Ceesay said: “We wrote to the government to support our trip to Mali, but in their reply letter they indicated that they can’t help.

Ceesay continued: “With the intervention of our friends in the UK and USA, we were able to travel to Mali to take part in the tournament. We also received assistance from three Gambian philanthropists.”

The football team is appealing to the ministry to support their activities.
