The Gambia will soon start exporting mangoes to European countries, according to a recent report published by the fruit and vegetable website, Fruit Net.
This rare milestone, according to Fruit Net, was made possible by a World Bank grant received by the Gambia Horticultural Enterprise. They will be supplying mangoes to supermarkets in Europe creating a commercial prospect for many local farmers.
According to GHE Chief Executive, the grant also offers their enterprise the opportunity to conduct research into new varieties that would offer a further boost to exports.
The GHE, which is headquartered in New Jeshwang, was established in October 1990 as a Sole Proprietorship. It is the Gambia’s largest dealer and distributor of farm and garden inputs.
