As the National Assembly election gets closer, some candidates are currently busy canvassing for votes.
In Brikama North, Alhagie S Darboe is the clear favorite to become the constituency’s first National Assembly Member since the demarcation of Kombo Central into two.
His main opponent is Pa Manneh, a former APRC bigwig who jumped ship shortly after Jammeh was defeated in the presidential election.
Throughout the former regime's 22 years in power, Darboe never hid his support for the then opposition UDP.
He's said to be the polar opposite of Pa Manneh, who is described by many as a political prostitute. In his short political career, he's shifted loyalties three times beginning with Waa Juwara's NDAM party. And that, according to many observers, would make the difference.
“I have worked with both of them. But to be honest Alhagie is the right person to represent Brikama North in the Assembly. He is consistent unlike Pa Manneh,” said a former Brikama youth leader, Borry Jarju.
Borry, who now lives in England, added: “I am sure majority of the youth will vote for Alhagie.”
The aspiring NAM is said to be visiting voters door-to-door to seek their support.
