A young Islamic school teacher (Ustaz) has been left heartbroken after learning that the girl he planned to marry was married and had a child.
Sharing his story with the Grand Bantaba, the Ustaz expressed deep sorrow and disappointment.
“I am a teacher at an Islamic school, and there’s a Grade 12 student I fell in love with. She is beautiful, calm, and pious. She wears the ebadu, and her modesty attracted me,” he wrote.
According to him, he proposed to the girl despite her initial rejection. However, over time, their conversations grew, and she eventually accepted his proposal. She told him she went through painful experiences in past relationships, which led her to stay single.
“I was sincere in my intentions and made it clear that I wanted to marry her. Our relationship seemed genuine, and I trusted her completely. But every time I tried to visit her, she gave one excuse after another.”
His suspicions grew, especially after she declined his invitation to visit during the recent Koriteh. Still, he remained patient and even deleted her contact at one point to ease his mind.
“Then this week, I asked another teacher, an Ustaz, who knows her well, and he revealed that she is married and has a child. I was shocked. I couldn’t believe it. But later, I found out she’s recently divorced.”
The teacher said he was planning to marry her after completing his studies at the University of The Gambia this semester.
“My heart is crying. I feel deeply betrayed. I still love her, but I’m struggling with the pain,” he shared. “My plan now is to leave her, but part of me wants to forgive her, talk things through, and if she agrees, I will marry her.”
