One of the graduates of The University of The Gambia (UTG), Bubacarr Drammeh, has vowed to make success of acquiring his Master Degree after being accepted at the University of Washington, where funds were raised to help him pursue graduate studies in law.
Professor Jennifer Lenga-Long and her associates at University of Washington School of Law have helped raise funds for Mr. Drammeh who was struggling to come up with funds to start his Master’s program in law at the University of Washington after fleeing his native Gambia under the dictatorship of Yahya Jammeh a few years ago.
Speaking to What’s On-Gambia from his base in Washington State, Mr. Drammeh was grateful and philosophical and had this to say: “I thank Allah for the blessing. I am excited and grateful to the entire staff of the Law School. My sincere gratitude to Professor Jennifer Lenga-Long, Dr. Dana Raigrodski, Dr. Melissa Kane, Aaron and Olivia for everything they’ve done for me. Thank you!”
Mr. Drammeh is obviously not oblivious to the expectations weighing on his young shoulders to do well by family and friends “I know my family and the entire community are excited and have a lot of expectations. I am aware of their expectations. I always tell myself that to whom much is given, much is expected. I solicit your prayers for a successful journey,” elated Drammeh concluded.
Bubacarr Drammeh is an academic high flyer and started his academic journey at SOS Hermaine Gmeiner High School before matriculating to the UTG to bag his bachelor’s degree in Law and Gambia Law School to become a barrister.
Bubacarr was a former State Counsel and fled The Gambia for the US when the government under Yahya Jammeh tried to use him to prosecute opposition protesters against his conscience and against the tenets of freedom of speech and assembly.
The UTG maybe a third world university and grossly unequipped but it continues to produce world class scholars who continue to get graduate admission into top notch Universities around the world. University of Washington (UW) is among the most reputable universities in the world. It is ranked 25th in the world by Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2018. It embraces people from all cultures and nationalities.
