An associate professor at the University of The Gambia (UTG) is set to reshape Gambian politics.
According to reliable information reaching What’s On-Gambia, Dr. Sidat Yaffa is about to register his own political party called Citizens for National Development (CND) with the Independent Electoral Commission.
In a WhatsApp message sent to some of his students, the professor revealed that CND would comprise of mainly young Gambians and if everything goes as planned; it would be launched next year.
Dr. Yaffa, who is currently the acting Director of UTG/ WASCAL MAP on Climate Change and Education, is seemingly not happy with the Coalition government under the leadership of President Adama Barrow.
However, some of his students are not convinced that he has what it takes to lead 1.8m Gambians. According to them, their professor is not suitable for the post of president.
In a UTG WhatsApp group, one Cherno Jallow wrote: “These people are not serious. You cannot even run your institution well and now telling people about a party to run the affairs of the state.”
Famous Brikama-based gender activist, Matida Komma jokingly added: “He better go run UTG. Don’t know who would follow them. Let me call AJJ for them.
Dr. Yaffa is a research agronomist and negotiator at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
