The vice principal of Buduck Upper Basic and Senior Secondary School in the Central River Region has been accused by her teachers of operating a “mburu ak nyebeh” business in the school.
One of them, who begged for anonymity, disclosed in a marathon message to What’s On-Gambia: “I am writing to bring to your attention a serious issue at Buduck Upper and Senior Secondary School, which requires immediate attention.
“The vice principal of our school is engaged in activities that are not only inappropriate but also detrimental to the educational environment we strive to maintain. She has started a personal business selling bread and beans on school premises and is involving students in this venture.
”This is happening during school hours, and it has reached a point where even after break time is over, students are being assigned to continue with these sales activities.
”This behavior is highly unprofessional and goes against the core values of our institution. The primary focus of our school should be on providing quality education and fostering an environment conducive to learning. However, the vice principal’s actions are diverting attention away from our educational responsibilities and are instead prioritizing personal financial gain.
”The involvement of students in these activities is particularly concerning. It not only disrupts their learning but also sets a poor example of what our roles as educators should entail. We are employed by the government to serve our country and assist our students in all aspects of their development, not to exploit their labor for personal profit.
”I believe that this matter requires urgent intervention to ensure that the integrity of our school is upheld and that our students receive the education they deserve. I urge the relevant authorities to investigate this situation and take appropriate action to rectify it.”
