‘What is special about having sex?’ Gambian businessman in Spain threatens to sue What’s On-Gambia over joke

Last week, we wrote a joke on our Facebook page about Gambians in Spain: “Most of them don't even know how to use smartphones. Sene banko semesters! They are always eager to visit The Gambia and have sex, because they don't get it in Spain.”

The sene banko semesters wouldn’t let the joke go.

One Ebrima Sillah in Catalonia commented: “I am in Spain and I am proud to be a Gambian man in Spain. We are not here to have sex.  If it is only that who will leave his country.  If you want come to me I will teach even your father how to use smart phone.”

A businessman in Barcelona has now threatened to sue What’s On-Gambia for writing ‘shit’ about them. He regarded the joke as offensive and a total lack of respect towards hardworking Gambians in Spain.

“You people have no respect whatsoever for your brothers. What is special about having sex with different women? We are here to make money and that is our priority. Your joke was tasteless and gross. I have spoken to a lawyer in The Gambia and I will make sure that we bring your asses to court. You will regret this, trust me,” he wrote in an email sent to What’s On-Gambia’s editor.

Spain is home to one of the largest Gambian populations outside The Gambia. Some of them arrived in the Southwestern European country through the ‘back way’.

When contacted, the editor of What’s On-Gambia said: “Do you know how many legal threats we received? Countless! Some people need to get a sense of humour.”
