Why is it that Gambian men don’t want their toubab wives on What’s On-Gambia?

Daisy is a keen follower of What’s On-Gambia. She loves The Gambia, and once took part in the famous Bajana International Marathon in Foni Brefet.

In April 2014, Daisy got married to Salieu Nyang, a 24-year-old Gambian she met while on holiday with her family.  According to the North Devon Journal, her parents, who introduced the pair, have known Salieu for about nine years.

Daisy told the journal: “My parents, brother and his girlfriend, my best friend and a few of my parents’ friends all came out for the wedding. It was one amazing, crazy and unforgettable day.”

Salieu now lives in the UK. Like many other Gambians married to European women, he is trying so hard to keep her 24-year-old wife away from What’s On-Gambia.

We were supposed to feature their wedding, but Daisy later changed her mind saying: “Sorry, I am not sure if my husband is too happy about it though.”

A few months ago, we received an e-mail from a ‘bumbster’. He wanted us to limit the presence of European women on our Facebook page.  Interesting, isn’t it?

This brings us to the question: Why is it that Gambian men don’t want their toubab wives or girlfriends on What’s On-Gambia?

It’s sickening to us how their women easily fall for their manipulation. What’s wrong with being active on What’s On-Gambia? We are not here to interfere in people’s marriages or relationships.

To be honest, we do have some toubabs who often ask us for advice or to ‘validate their feelings’. But we do not meddle, we listen, we are there for them, and support them no matter what.

At What’s On-Gambia we highly respect our toubab followers!
