Will Horejah Bala-Gaye take husband’s last name?

She's from one of the most popular families in Pipeline, so it's no surprise that Horejah Bala-Gaye is not keen on taking her husband's last name.

The deputy lead counsel at the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) got married to former US soldier, Alagie Barrow in May 2019 after a whirlwind romance.

Unlike many Western-educated Gambian women, she is still using her last name.

Horejah's father, Mousa Bala-Gaye is a veteran civil servant. He had a long career in the public sector before becoming a minister in the former government of Yahya Jammeh.

Her brother, Gibou, popularly known as Gee, is a household name in the country. He is one of the leading rappers with multiple hit songs under his belt.

"Horejah is from a popular family, so it makes sense that she doesn't want to drop her last name for her husband's," said a keen follower of the TRRC.

Meanwhile, rumours reaching What's On-Gambia revealed the famous lawyer is pregnant with her first child.
