Woman Allegedly Assaulted by Husband Over Lunch Delay in Sanyang

A disturbing domestic violence case has surfaced in Sanyang, where a man is accused of physically assaulting his wife for not preparing lunch on time.

The man’s sister, who contacted What’s On-Gambia, expressed outrage over the incident, stating: “My brother physically assaulted his wife — a woman who has been the main provider for their family of five children.

She works hard, selling food in the market to support the household, yet she was beaten simply for arriving home late to cook.”

She described the act as indefensible on moral, social, and legal grounds.

The incident was reported to the Sanyang Police Station. But according to the sister, officers declined to arrest the man, instead treating the matter as a family issue.

“I am deeply upset and disappointed with a system that continues to fail women like my sister-in-law,” she said. “The police response is not only irresponsible — it is dangerous. It sends a message that violence against women is acceptable in our society.”
