In the courts, he’s revered for his intellect. In politics, he’s the leader of the country’s main opposition party, United Democratic Party.
But there’s a side to Ousainou Darboe that is masked by his much-publicized life as a politician and a lawyer. That is, he’s a ‘super dad’.
As Darboe clocked 67 on Friday, his daughter, Fenda who is based in the US with her husband, wrote this glowing tribute to him on Facebook:
“A dad like you is hard to find, not that i have searched for another. I am perfectly content with the one I have. I cannot imagine a different father. God must love me so very much to have chosen you to be my dad and looked the world over and then decided that "THIS IS THE ONE SHE WILL HAVE". You are just the right kind of dad I cannot imagine anyone but you. Sharing ups, downs, tears , laughter and my personal best; the "blunders" made by certain people that happen at Kotu which I look forward to your calls. It feels like I am right there with u guys.
You are my super dad. You put everyone first before yourself. I never used to understand why you always said no when I asked you for things and u say no to me and then I would see you do it for the less fortunate but growing up it all made sense to me and I am glad that I learnt that lesson from you.
You are one in a million. Just know how much you are appreciated and loved even though I dont say it enough.
Happiest of birthdays!! I love you.”
Unlike her father, who first ran for president in 1996 winning 35.84% of the vote, Fenda is not active in politics. She is married to one of the cutest ‘toubab Gambians’
