Young marabout accused of duping ‘back way’ migrants in Germany

It’s common for young Gambians to solicit spiritual solutions for their worldly problems only to be duped by conmen and charlatans.

And, if the experiences of illegal migrants in Germany are anything to judge, Almamo Manneh is one such swindler.

The young marabout living in Sweden has been accused of duping dozens of back way migrants in Germany on the pretext of helping them get EU residential permit.

Almamo Manneh reportedly charges his victims more than 300 euro to perform rituals and make offerings that can speed up their asylum applications.

Hundreds of young Gambians who currently languish in German asylum camps consider marabouts like Almamo as saintly superstars that can help them win the right to remain in Germany.

The young marabout meets them through his agents, a source revealed.

“He knows how to make them believe him and his alleged supernatural powers.”

In one case, a boy allegedly gave him a car to help actively guide him through his asylum application process. The car was shipped to The Gambia.

The source said: “The boy came to realise he is a scammer and now wants his car back. The Gambia police is investigating the case.”

One of the victims, who spoke to What’s On-Gambia, disclosed that Almamo is now building a huge house in Faji Kunda from the money he made off them.

When asked why they didn’t report him to the German police, he responded: “We are illegal here!”
