14 young people Barrow should consider for top jobs

As the dawn of a new era is set in The Gambia, President Adama Barrow has begun work by naming and swearing in ministers for some vital ministries. However, there is a clamour at home and abroad for him to consider some bright young Gambians for top jobs in his new government.

 

Below is a list of 14 bright young Gambians who have the potential to contribute significantly to developing The Gambia from a third world country to first world country. Just like the magical Singapore story; these bright young Gambians can take us there if given the opportunity.

Alagie Jinkang

He studied Jurisprudence and Human Rights Law in Italy. Alagie is a very bright young man who tirelessly worked to bring to fore the difficulties Gambian migrants encounter in Europe.

Abdulrahaman Bah

He is currently doing his MSc in International Commercial Law at the University of Birmingham. A scholar of the prestigious Chevening scholarship, Mr Bah is both a good lawyer and prolific writer.

Sait Matty Jaw

Sait is a former political prisoner wrapping up his Master’s Degree in Public Administration at the University of Bergen in Norway. He bagged his undergraduate and first Master’s Degree in African Studies at the University of The Gambia and taught there before moving to Norway for another Master’s degree. Sait has vast experience in youth mobilisation and social work.

Oumie Sissoko

Given her experience as an ardent grassroots women's rights advocate and social worker, she is perfect for a mid-ranking official at the Women's Bureau or Ministry of Women Affairs. Oumie studied in Taiwan.

Omar Jabang

A first class law student who became the country's youngest magistrate ever, is satisfactorily grounded in law. Omar is a fearless and mature young man who will do a lot to move The Gambia forward when utilised. He was the valedictorian of his batch at The Gambia Law School.

Nfally Fadera

He is the very definition of made in The Gambia success story, ever continuously setting the standards of excellence in broadcast media while utilising Facebook live and other media to reach hundreds of thousands of his audience.  A graduate of The University of The Gambia and one-time personal aide to the university’s first Gambian-born Vice Chancellor Prof Kah, Nfally is very mature with a great sense of proportion. He is currently a Chevening scholar wrapping up his Master’s Degree at the prestigious West Minister University.

Pata Saidykhan

Although some might find him abrasive, Pata is an incisive critic. Very analytical! A Master’s Degree holder from Bellevue University in the USA, he is unarguably one of the most respected young voices in the Struggle. Pata is a key member of the Gambia Democratic Fund – a Diaspora-based organisation that raised more than D1m for President Barrow’s campaign.

Jama Jack

Jama is in the lead in the fight for women's rights and gender equality. The publisher of theLinguere blog, which she uses to chronicle womanhood, unapologetically brands herself as a feminist. Apart from her writing prowess, she possesses great communications skills. She holds a BA in Communications studies from Morocco.

Sering Touray

He is one of the finest budding economists in The Gambian. Sering is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in the U.K after bagging an MSc in Edinburgh University through the UK government funded Chevening scholarship. The former University of The Gambia Students Union Secretary is widely admired.

Kebba Jammeh

He was one of the star students of the University of The Gambia, who broke all glass ceilings and now studying macroeconomics at the world-renowned London School of Economics and Political science. Kebba is a man of great tenacity who possesses the will and drive for self-improvement and the pursuit of excellence.

Modou Lamin Kambi

He is an influential young man who hailed from the country's second largest town, Brikama. Modou Lamin played a significant role in mobilising and encouraging young people to support the Coalition during the election campaign. Having schooled in the prestigious Methodist Academy with most Kairaba Avenue kids, Kambi gels well with folks from both urban and semi-urban Gambia.

Sainey Darboe

Sainey is a US-based Gambian journalist who served as the influential and critical editor-in-chief of The Standard newspaper in The Gambia. He studied Law at the University of The Gambia as well as Insurance and Risk Management at West Africa Insurance Institute. He has rich experience of working with various national and international publications such as Today newspaper, Foroyaa and The Guardian in the U.K.

Saikou Jammeh

He is a well-respected freelance journalist who writes for both local and international newspapers and magazines including The Guardian. Saikou is the secretary general of the Gambia Press Union (GPU).   He has covered major national news and has also written extensively on irregular migration – popularly known as “back way”.

Sam Phatey

He has worked for U.S. telecommunication giants AT&T and Verizon Wireless and for Georgia's third largest natural gas company Gas South as a marketer before starting his own media company, SMBC. Sam has participated in the formulation of policies and law in The Gambia including the Education Policy, Children's Act, National Children Policy working closely with the education, health and justice ministries and law enforcement.
