5,000 Swedish tourists have already booked their holiday to The Gambia!

At least 5,000 Swedish tourists have already booked their holiday to The Gambia. This was confirmed by Vingresor, Sweden’s biggest tour operator offering winter packages to the country that prides itself as the Smiling Coast of Africa.

Speaking to What’s On-Gambia, the company’s communications manager, Magdalena Öhrn, said: “Our volume to The Gambia is approx. 5 000 passengers this winter. The season starts in October and ends in the beginning of April.”

According to her, the demand for The Gambia was very weak last year because of the Ebola outbreak that took a toll on West Africa.

Magdalene said the number of Swedish holiday makers is expected to rise in the coming months.

“We are expecting some late bookings, but it is hard to give you any details now.”

When asked if they are adequately marketing The Gambia, she responded: “We market the destination via ving.se, our most important channel. Last week, we did run an integrated newsletter and social media campaign where The Gambia was the main focus.”

Sweden is one of the The Gambia’s biggest tourism markets. It is widely believed that the first tourists to visit the country shortly after gaining independence from Great Britain were from Sweden.
