A 24-year-old Latri Kunda Sabiji girl, who begged for anonymity, claimed her ex-husband destroyed her life.
In a chat with What’s On-Gambia, the mother-of-one branded her four-year-old marriage a nightmare and accused her ex-husband of abusing her emotionally and physically.
“We got married in 2017 when I was just 19 and very naive. It was after Grade 12,” she said.
The 24-year-old continued: “We dated very briefly before I got married to him. I guess I was young and stupid. He was a very violent and abusive husband. If you go to Afrimed and ask them, they will tell you that I was always there for treatment.
“I went to the Cadi court to get a divorce. It was too much to bear. I lost my self-esteem, I was broken.”
According to the young mother, her ex-husband pays only D1500 a month in child support for their daughter.
“He has a good job and owns a business, but only pays D1500. I am currently renting in Wellingara with my daughter. It’s not easy, but we are managing.”
But despite her revelations, the mother-of-one doesn’t want to drag her ex-husband to court. She said: “I am not speaking out because I am angry. But I don’t want any woman to experience what I went through.”
