A young woman has accused one of The Gambia’s most popular marabouts, known as Uncle Kebba, of duping her out of D18,000 with a bogus promise to make her a millionaire in just three days.
In a fiery audio message sent to the marabout, the woman didn’t hold back. She claimed Uncle Kebba demanded D400, an egg, and then D18,000, all with the promise that she would soon be rolling in riches.
“I had witnesses when I handed you my money. I asked if you could truly do what I requested, and you confirmed it. You asked me to bring D400 and an egg. I gave you D18,000, and you promised that in three days, I would see the results of your work. It’s now been three weeks, and I have not seen chapa ndeyam,” she said.
But the drama didn’t stop there.
Uncle Kebba hit back, threatening to ‘spiritually deal with her’ if she did not apologize for “disrespecting” him.
“You are the first to insult me, and I will make sure you are the last,” he warned ominously. “Don’t just run to What’s On-Gambia – go to TV stations too! Ask people who I am!”
He denied being a scammer, brushing off her complaints: “I don’t owe you anything. You can go wherever you like and I will answer. I am not your level.”
The woman has since reported the matter to the police and labeled the marabout a fraud. He responded in English, dismissing her accusations: “You cannot tarnish my image. You are too young. I have been a marabout for 19 years. You are a child. I would not argue with you. I am too old for that.”
Despite his threats of spiritual retaliation, the woman stood firm, declaring she is a “Mandinka pirr” and not afraid of him.
