A Sierra Leonean man residing in The Gambia was arrested last weekend by Brusubi Police for allegedly helping a married woman abandon her husband.
The woman, identified as Adama Serry, is also a Sierra Leonean national. According to reports, she was brought to The Gambia by her husband in September 2022, and the couple have a two-year-old son together. She is also said to be four months pregnant.
The husband, who reported her sudden disappearance to the police, told What’s On Gambia that he was unaware of any marital issues prior to her departure.
“I married her and brought her to The Gambia on September 29, 2022. Before she disappeared, we had no problems or misunderstandings. She did not show any signs that she was planning to leave,” he said.
He explained that he was at his shop when his wife left with their two-year-old son, Muhammed. “I thought she was going home to do something and would return to the shop. To my surprise, she never came back. When it was time to close, I went home and discovered that some of her belongings were gone,” he added.
The husband further alleged that his wife took D50,000 before leaving.
During police investigations, another Sierra Leonean national, Lamin Ceesay, was arrested for allegedly assisting the woman in her disappearance. According to the husband, it was discovered that Ceesay hired the taxi used to transport the woman and her belongings.
Police sources say the woman has since traveled by road to Sierra Leone and has no intention of returning to The Gambia to reunite with her husband.
