A man with dreadlocks reportedly angered many beachgoers at Bafuloto Beach after openly making out with an elderly British tourist in front of children and families.
In a video shared with What’s On-Gambia, the pair could be seen repeatedly kissing while the man affectionately touched her, with shocked onlookers watching.
Several people at the beach were said to be upset by the scene, with some fearing the pair might go even further because of the intensity of their public display.
Public displays of affection in The Gambia are often frowned upon due to conservative social values. While holding hands or brief hugs may be tolerated, prolonged kissing or intimate behaviour in public can attract criticism.
The pair eventually left the beach, and many families were reportedly relieved, allowing children to move around freely again.
