A Senegalese ECOMIG soldier has allegedly threatened to kill a Fonianka man after attacking him with a cutlass during a confrontation over an alleged affair with the man’s wife.
The shocking incident reportedly occurred in Foni, where the Senegalese soldier is deployed as part of the ECOMIG contingent.
Speaking in an interview with award-winning journalist Nfally Fadera, Foni Kansala National Assembly Member Almameh Gibba alleged that the soldier attacked the man after he confronted him and demanded that he stay away from his wife.
Gibba further claimed that the matter has been reported to the Bwiam Police, but alleged that authorities have been reluctant to pursue the case.
The lawmaker also raised broader concerns about the presence of ECOMIG troops in Foni, claiming that some soldiers have allegedly become involved in marital disputes and sexual relationships with local women.
Gibba alleged that some residents have complained of soldiers allegedly sleeping with married women and engaging in sexual relationships with young women in the area.
