Amie Bojang Sissoho has been widely mocked on social media after an excruciating interview that saw her failing to sufficiently answer questions about President Barrow’s decision to sack Mai Fatty.

The State House press director was being interviewed by BBC’s Esau Williams and on several times struggled to explain why the interior minister was sent packing.

When asked whether the president has given any reason for his decision, she replied: “All I have been given and I know is that he has been relieved of his duties and that’s it.”

Amie added: “people have the right to speculate and that’s not a problem.

One of the most outspoken supporters of the Coalition government, Nanama Keita, who once worked as an editor for Daily Observer, described the interview as “pure trash”. According to him, he couldn’t finish listening to the whole interview.

For businessman and youth leader Raffie Diab, the interview was a disgrace.

“What a bad interview. It clearly shows she doesn’t know her job. She should be removed and replaced by a more competent person fit for the job. Media is just not her thing.”

Another young Gambian who wasn’t impressed with Amie’s performance is Dijah Jawo who once worked under her at the Office of the President. She wrote on Facebook:  “From deficiency in writing to deficiency in interview. Interesting times ahead. The cats are coming out of the bag woo.”

Freelance journalist Alieu Ceesay also commented:  “Why do you have to grant an interview to BBC when you cannot be concrete in your answers?”
