Impeccable sources have revealed to What’s On-Gambia that President Adama Barrow has declined to associate himself with his former guardian, Alhagie Musa Njie’s son, Papa Njie’s bid for the Kanifing Municipality mayoral seat.
Barrow spent his youthful days with the Njie family in Banjul, where he was moulded and introduced to business by Papa Njie’s father before his sojourn to UK where he gathered money to start his own real estate company.
Papa, who has already started his campaign, wants Barrow to endorse his bid but the president is reluctant to get involved and has allegedly spoken to Papa about it.
Another source revealed that the mayoral aspirant, who once worked at the US Embassy as Cultural Affairs Assistant/ Education Advisor, wants a UDP nomination.
What’s On-Gambiawas unable to ascertain whether all is well between the Njies and the President who lived in their house at Old Perseverance Street in Banjul for many years.
The local government election is scheduled to take place in April 2018. So far, more than five people have announced their candidacy for Kanifing among them youth activist Bakary Badjie and former mayor Lie Conteh.
