Did Barrow give D5m cash gift to Jaliba?

In a show of support for the famous kora maestro Jaliba Kuyateh, President Adama Barrow reportedly contributed D5 million towards his Titaro album launch concert.

The event took place on January 4 at the Pencha Mi Hall and attracted numerous dignitaries.

While President Barrow himself was unable to attend, his wives, Fatoumatta and Sarjo, were present, representing the First Family. They were joined by prominent figures, including Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Seedy Njie.

A source close to Jaliba revealed to What's On-Gambia that the president’s substantial cash gift was a gesture of support for the singer’s latest project.

"Barrow gave Jaliba D5 million. The president recognizes his significant contribution to Gambian culture and music," said the source.

Often hailed as the "King of Kora,"  the “Semester” hitmaker is a beloved figure in Gambian music, making it unsurprising that both the president and other political leaders are eager to support him.

The Titaro concert also saw the presence of opposition leader Ousainou Darboe of the United Democratic Party (UDP), along with several executive members of his party, underscoring the widespread admiration for Jaliba across the political spectrum.
