Doff rek: What’s On-Gambia capitulates over controversial online video

Elections come with political sensitivities and What’s On-Gambia has pulled down from its Facebook page a politically controversial video after threats of many kind, some of wild nature.

The famous Manneh sisters, Gina and Mariama, were not particularly happy when What’s On-Gambia last reproduced one of their family videos to poke fun at the opposition UDP’s questionable choice of candidate for 2016 presidential elections.

The video shows the two girls and their mum dancing happily to a Nigerian song. The famous online magazine shared it last week with the caption: “How APRC supporters responded after hearings news that UDP selected an unknown politician as their presidential candidate.”

The sisters responded with visible anger. Gina was the first to write to react.

“This is a video involving my mother,” she said. “Please take the video down immediately. She does not want to be part of it. And I don't find it funny either!”

Her younger sister, Mariama, also reacted later rather calmly: “Can you please take down my video with my family on your page please.”

However, the brother in Norway has lost it all. He threatened to “deal with What’s On-Gambia” if they fail to delete the video from Facebook.

He wrote in an e-mail: “Sen chaxx ndxx lai nuxx, if you don't remove the video now

Are you fuxxxxx stupid? Just take the video down, before it gets out of hand.”

However, he later apologised for his rudeness.

“I'm sorry for my rudeness, but don't let that affect my mom and sisters

Stepped over the line a little bit maybe, I am sorry for that.”

The video was later deleted.  If you want to watch it, visit Gina Manneh’s Facebook page.
