The Citizens' Alliance (CA) presidential candidate Dr Ismaila Ceesay said if he's elected in December 2021, non-resident entertainers including musicians, comedians and dancers will pay tax on their incomes generated in the country.

During an interview with VM International, Dr Ceesay argued that everyone who earns any kind of income should be liable to pay income tax.

"Youssou Ndour is paid almost 70,000 euros for a concert in The Gambia. How much tax is paid from that 70,000 euros? If that tax is paid, that money should be invested in the music industry to build music studios and support sprouting musicians for our music industry to grow and compete with other countries," said the CA leader.

Dr Ceesay added that tax collected from non-resident entertainers can also be used to build the country's first national music school.

"In the music school, we can train our youngsters to become producers, DJs and other careers in the music industry".

The former University of The Gambia lecturer argued that any foreign artist who performs or participates in an event in The Gambia, the fee he receives should be subjected to Gambian tax.

Born in Brikama, Dr Ceesay is the youngest party leader in the country. He is among the most popular presidential hopefuls among young Gambians.
