Gambia Senior Secondary School heading back to its glory days

When the news broke out that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results were out, all focus was on the Mighty Nusrat which has over the years been on top of its game in terms of producing best results.

Little did anyone know that one of the most famous schools in the first republic was going to lead in this year’s WASSCE after perennial poor performances in the previous years.

Gambia Senior Secondary School is said to have produced a ton of Gambia's finest brains before it was overtaken by boys and girls who only went to the school because of their admiration for the school uniform and no wonder the effects are there for everyone to see which some people refer to as “garbage in, garbage out”.

The 19-year-old trendsetter for the school, Dominic Arthur, scored 9As which is unprecedented in the school's history.

He is described by the school authorities as a young man with great ambition who strives to settle for nothing less.

However, the school principal told journalists that he has creative teachers who are tirelessly working hard to bring out the best in their students.

Even though some people have doubts as to whether the school will be able to produce such results again, the principle Mr Jaiteh is hopeful that history will repeat itself come next WASSCE.
