Gambian community in Norway mourns one of their own, kill by heart attack

A famous member of the Gambian community in Norway, Babou Ndure (Old Boy) has died.

He is believed to have had a heart attack on Thursday, 2nd April while on vacation in The Gambia

It is understood Babou was in the country to visit his family and friends.

Omar Drammeh of the Gambian Association in Oslo wrote on Facebook: “The Committee of the Gambian Association in Oslo is reeling with disbelief and deep sorrow with the sudden death of our dedicated committee member, brother and friend, Babou Ndure. This sad event happened while visiting his family in The Gambia.”

He added: “Babou, commonly and fondly known as ‘Oldboy’, was a true gentleman by all standards. He will be remembered as an endearing person of high integrity, such that his example will continue to inspire us. We consider him the true gentleman of the committee and we will never forget his smiley face and gentle nature. The way he carried himself and executed his duties were exemplary. One of his defining characteristics has always been respect- respect for the individual. It is impossible to believe that Babou’s sincerity, integrity, reliability and dignity will no longer enrich us and that his experience, wisdom and kindness will not be available to us anymore. He loved life and his zest to live a full one was inspiring. Football was part of his life, being a former Phantoms player in The Gambia football league in the 70s, and an ardent Liverpool fan.”

Old Boy is survived by his wife and children. May his soul rest in peace!
