The leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Mamma Kandeh has disclosed details of his secret meeting with President Adama Barrow.
Kandeh said he met the president in February, 2017 at his Brufut residence as part of his commitment to guide The Gambia on a path of dialogue and reconciliation after 22 years under Yahya Jammeh.
The GDC leader told What’s On-Gambia that the meeting was brief and he was accompanied by his team.
“I had some concerns and I felt the best thing to do was to engage him. But surprisingly, he told me to talk to Macky Sall.
“His swearing-in in Dakar was unconstitutional because at that time the Gambian embassy wasn’t a ‘Gambian territory’ since it was closed.”
According to Kandeh, he also informed the president that it was constitutionally wrong for a private lawyer to officiate the ceremony.
Among other things, he queried the appointment of Ousainou Darboe and Amadou Sanneh as ministers.
“They were prisoners and I haven’t seen anywhere were it is said they were pardoned. He just released them from prison and went ahead to appoint them as ministers, which is against the constitution.”
When asked whether President Barrow should step down after three years, Kandeh responded: “Barrow should step down now! He can’t still form a correct government. We still don’t have a vice president.
“Our sovereignty is being compromised with the presence of ECOMIG soldiers. What are they doing here?”
Barrow is seen by many as a clueless, unsophisticated and rubber stamp president who is being remote controlled by his godfather and foreign minister, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe.
