A US-based Somali man has allegedly confessed to shooting to death Fatoumatta Jallow, a 23-year-old Gambian who immigrated to the USA less than one year ago.
The heart-wrenching and shocking incident happened last week Wednesday in Wisconsin. Fatoumatta was reportedly at work when Ali Hassan walked in with a gun and shot her.
The motive of the shooting is not yet known, but family members are dismissing any romantic links. In an interview with a local newspaper, the 23-year-old’s cousin brother, Samba Baldeh said: “It is not over a romantic relationship.”
He described her death as “terrible, very shocking” to the Jallow family.
According to Samba, who lives in the USA, Fatoumatta is very quiet, peaceful and intelligent. He disclosed that she intended to go to university to study nursing.
Her alleged killer, Hassan is 25 years old and from Somalia. He was charged two days after the shooting with first-degree intentional homicide.
The duo worked for the same company, REM Wisconsin- which provides quality services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other complex challenge.
The funeral services for Fatoumatta took place on Saturday, Christmas Eve at the Islamic Center of East Madison. What’s On-Gambia was unable to confirm whether she was buried on the same day.
