Is GTB about to introduce beach fees in the Senegambia Strip?

The idea of free unlimited fun on the sandy beaches of the Senegambia Strip could soon be a thing of the past, according to a report published by Standard Newspaper on Tuesday.

The Bakau-based newspaper revealed that the Gambia Tourism Board (GTB) is introducing fee charges on beach users.  The move, according to their investigation, will mean that D1, 200 to D1, 000 refundable clean-up fees will be paid by beach users and D200 non-refundable fee paid will be used to pay lifesavers working on the beach.

When contacted by What’s On-Gambia, GTB’s Marketing Manager, Adama Njie said Standard Newspaperrushed into print without spending time to verify what is being reported.

According to him, he is aware of a beach management plan but cannot confirm if GTB is about to institute fees for use of beaches in hotel areas.
