Kerewan Samba Sira children sit on floor to learn

Some pupils at Kerewan Samba Sira Lower Basic School in the Central River Region sit on the floor to learn due to lack of furniture.

The situation, according to a source, is affecting effective teaching and learning in the school.

"The school was receiving support from Plymouth in the United Kingdom but they stopped and since then, we have been struggling," said our source in the village.

He disclosed that Grade 1, 2, and 3 classrooms have no single desk, forcing the children to sit on the floor.

"The government including the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education is aware of the difficulties our school children are facing. The Vice President was here in June after the windstorm that destroyed houses in some parts of the region."

Kerewan Samba Lower Basic School is among the oldest schools in the Central River Region. It was established by the PPP government in 1978.
