Like father, like son: Introducing UK-based musician, Villain

Junior Jagne, best known by his artist name Villain or Villz, is a popular UK-based artist. He started his career with the London rap group, Mucky Wolf Pack when he was just a teenager.

Villian later left the group to start Age Is Nothing (A.I.N) with few other friends. He is widely described as a “lyrical ball of energy.”

The 26-year-old’s love for music developed after watching the Lord of the Mics’ DVD. His father, famous Gambian event organizer Waka Jagne also inspired him a lot.

According to a friend, he spent a great part of his teenage days in youth clubs, where he had influences from Dizzy Rascal, Wiley, Tinchy Strider, J2K and God’s Gift. All these artists are from Bow – the British Foundation of Grime.

Villain dropped his first solo mixtape, Recommend Me in early 2012, which featured other grime artists such as; Blaze, Jammin, Kay Willz, Merker and Realz.

The mixtape showed his ‘destructive presence behind the microphone’ and demonstrated his writing ability.

Early February 2014, Villain released another mixtape , Are You Listening containing 8 brand new tracks and featured various London artists such as Sense, Wileout, Realz, Natty, Tempz, Kay Wills and D2.

The London-based Gambian was one of the winners of  Lord of the Mics 6  which is the biggest Grime platform in history. In October 2015, he made his debut on Don’t Flop – one of the biggest channels for Battle Rap Globally. He was the underdog BUT Villain totally destroyed and dismantled his opponent lyrically.

He told What’s On-Gambia that he is planning to visit The Gambia soon on a promotional tour. As part of the tour, Villain will also be collaborating with home-based musicians.
