Police do not believe any foul play was involved in the death of a man whose body was found in a room at the Friendship Hostel in Banjul on Saturday, May 24.
A source at the Police Headquarters disclosed to What's On-Gambia that the man (name withheld) was in the company of his 53-year-old girlfriend when the tragedy occurred.
The couple allegedly checked into the hostel on Friday, looking forward to a romantic weekend together. However, the anticipated joy turned into an unimaginable sorrow when, after spending hours together, the man suddenly fell silent and became unresponsive.
"The girlfriend went to the front desk to ask for help, but they told her that he would be fine. They thought he was just tired and had fallen asleep," said our source.
The police announced on their Facebook page that an investigation was launched, and the 53-year-old woman, who works as a teacher, was arrested on suspicion of murder.
They wrote: "The body of the deceased has been transported to the mortuary. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to his death.”
However, after determining that the man's death was ”accidental” with no foul play involved, the girlfriend was released.
