Mariama Jamanka has clinched the women's Bobsleigh title on the opening day of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) European Championships held in Germany on the 15th January.
Born to a German mum and Gambian dad, Mariama and her brake woman, Annika Drazek defeated their rivals from other European countries to win their first European crown in a time of 1 min 54.5sec.
“This is unbelievable,” she told journalist shortly after being named European female champion in Bobsleigh.
Bobsleigh or bobsled is a winter sport in which teams of two or four teammates make timed runs down narrow, twisting, banked, iced tracks in a gravity-powered sled. The timed runs are combined to calculate the final score.
