Miss Mariatou Sarr, a student at the University of The Gambia is set to represent The Gambia at the Miss Heritage Global to be staged in Accra, Ghana in August 2019.

Miss Heritage was founded on the basis of promoting cooperation between all nations by having young unmarried women from different backgrounds to be involved in the process of initiating positive sustainable development in the world through the use of beauty pageantry to promote world heritage and tourism.

Miss Sarr, who was crowned the winner of the Miss West Africa-Gambia last year said she would do her best to raise the Gambian flag higher and use pageantry as a platform to better the lives of Gambians, especially the youth.

The fusion of heritage and beauty pageantry is very much an astute noble idea because it creates the idea of modelling for a purpose that is greater and deeper, making pageantry a tool for sustainable development.

“I have already started training and coach is currently in Ghana. I am working hard to ensure that I perform at the very best because it’s not an easy competition,” Miss Sarr said.

The 23-year- old, who was selected via an online application process, said her challenge is the lack of funds.

“I am counting on every Gambian to support me in any way possible because when I win, The Gambia wins."
