Muslims to mark Koriteh as new moon is set to be sighted

Muslims across the country will this weekend throng mosques and other designated grounds for prayers marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

The celebration, which is popularly known as Koriteh (Eid al-Fitr),  is due to start on Friday, June 15 or on Saturday, June 16, depending on the sighting of the moon of the new lunar month.

Here are the recommended acts for Koriteh:

-    Try to pray Fajr in congregation at the mosque.

-    Eat something sweet before going to the mosque or prayer ground. If you eat dates, try to eat an odd number.

-     Perform Ghusl (ritual washing of the whole body ) before leaving your house.

-    Use a chewing stick to clean your teeth.

-    Wear a nice scented perfume.

-     Wear your best clothes for the occasion.

-    Show that you are happy and greet others with happiness.

-    Travel to the mosque or prayer ground by foot if possible, saying Takbeer until the prayers begin.
