New fashion show to give kids chance to walk runway

Damia for Kids in collaboration with Icey Wonderland is launching a new fashion show – one designed exclusively for children.

The Kids Fashion Show will be held on Sunday, April 16 at the prestigious Jaama Hall, Kairaba Beach Hotel. As many as 25 kids aged 4 to 14 will have the chance to walk the runway and be trained in modelling before the show.

According to the founder and coordinator of Damia for Kids, Awa Drammeh, the Kids Fashion Show was created to offer kids the opportunity to take part in the country’s entertainment industry.

“Fashion has always been a passion… I was told by a fashion agent that I could never work in the fashion industry. This gave me the strength to come up with something that will help motivate the young people, and that nothing is impossible especially those who will want to venture into the fashion industry someday. My other motive is that Gambian children love fashion but lack activities of their own. I decided to initiate this and as well to keep them occupy with something positive.”

The young entrepreneur added: “My expectation is to expose the kids and designers that only deal with baby outfits. I want to open more opportunities to children with talents in modelling and other endeavours. I would therefore welcome the support of all Gambians and non-Gambians.”

The fashion show is expected to start at 3pm. Some of the famous Gambian musicians who are lined up to grace the stage include Bigg Faa (Mr Anything), OG Log, ST and Barhama
